Patrol Challenge 2006 Clues

Every year the locations, activities and items are different. Here are the clues from 2006 so you can get an idea of what kind of fun your patrol will have. See the unusual Photo Safari locations and the crazy and fun activities in store for you. How many can you figure out? How many have you in the dark?

32 100 The 100 year old Wisteria vine and adobe ranch house of the sheriff who captured the last person publicly hanged in California. Both must be in the same picture.
33 180 Location of the only experimental rabbit breeding station in the United States
34 40 The banner of the "Official" 33rd President on Presidential Drive
35 60 The town named after the man who drilled California's 1st commercially successful oil well. Plaque must be in the picture.
36 100 With a live mule. 40 Bonus points if you take the picture feeding it a carrot.
37 130 The corner of Baxter St. and Lemoyne St. This is a daylight picture only! Night photos will not count. Be very careful on this one - this is only for the courageous with strong brakes!
38 80 An impossible shaped object at least 4 feet tall, within 2 miles of Sunday check in location
40 110 The gravesite of the last governor of Mexican California. You may visit the actual gravesite, but do not take a picture there. You must take it somewhere else that is appropriate and shows you were there.
41 120 The Hal Watkins display at the Scout Shop
42 60 The life-sized statue of the founder of Los Angeles
43 120 The plaque that declares, "The first location in the United States to show all 37 of William Shakespeare's plays."
44 60 Yak-3 at WWII Aviation Museum
45 60 Touching the fossils at the California Oil Museum. 100 Bonus Points if you can tell what was used to light the upper office lamps and where it came from. Write your answer on the CD Picture list (form "A")
46 40 Home of the man who said, "Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there".
47 150 The rusted jeep where the M.A.S.H. series was shot
48 250 The monument at the end of Nichols Cyn. This location has a 3,000 point Bonus Pool. The Bonus Pool will be divided evenly among all patrols that find the monument and take the picture.

51 80 3 people wearing Wal-Mart vests. All 3 must be in the same picture with your patrol.

54 130 The subject of the etched plaque that a deep sea vessel is given on its maiden voyage to the Los Angeles Harbor. This location will only count if it's in the background of the photo of another location in its vicinity.

57 50 First Synagogue built in the San Fernando Valley
58 100 Grave marker of a person buried in the 19th century, date must be visible
59 60 The birthplace of Los Angeles
60 190 Li-Ming and Yanna's home at the EFCB Feline Conservation Center. 50 Bonus points if you can get at least one of them in the picture.
61 140 The final resting place of Tarzan's creator. You must include in the picture the address on a piece of paper and it must be large enough to be readable in the photo.
62 110 Oldest standing structure in Ventura County
63 210 Walt Disney garage studio - today's location
64 150 Take a picture with 3 strangers (no one you know) all on pogo sticks. All 3 must be up on their pogo stick at the same time in the picture.

77 120 The biggest cross in the Cahuenga Pass, you must be within 10 feet of it. You may not trespass thru homes to get there. This is a daylight picture only! Night photos will not count.

79 120 Take picture of Patrol and 1 Adult Advisor in a swimming pool with the water up to your chest. Jacuzzi does not count. The Advisor must be in the pool and everyone must be in Class A uniform for this picture to count. This location has a 3,000 point Bonus Pool. The Bonus Pool will be divided evenly among all patrols that complete the task and take the picture.

Special Activities

Points Activity
190 per patrol Patrol shares an Ostrich Burger at Charley Brown's. If, and only if, one of your Patrol members is allergic to ostrich, or you have a dietary restriction; you can share a Buffalo Burger.
300 per patrol Patrol makes a Papier Mâché camel at least 36 inches tall. You must use a wire framework and make it from scratch, no pre-made store bought forms. 200 bonus points for the 10 best camels.
80 per letter Write a story or anecdote about your experiences in the Patrol Challenge. 1 story per patrol, it must be at least 2 paragraphs and readable. These may be posted on our website. Each letter must have your first name, Patrol name and District listed. Additional 80 Bonus points may be earned if your adult advisor also writes a story. This is one of the few opportunities adult leaders have to earn points for Scouts. Turn in on Sunday at check in.
40 per letter Write a thank you letter to 1 of the donors from the Challenge Supporters page of the event website. Letter must be signed by all Scouts and Adults and put into an envelope and put a stamp on it. 1 letter per donor. You may write to as many donors as you want. Turn in on Sunday at check in.
150 Patrol makes a cheesecake. The top 10 will each earn 100 Bonus points.
200 per patrol Patrol makes a short movie! You can make a movie that is a minimum of 2 ½ minutes long, up to 8 minutes maximum. The movie will be judged on Story, Characters, Dialogue and Technical ability. Movies will be judged when you turn in on Sunday. You can use any format you like. The requirement is that it must be played and watched on Sunday. We will have a monitor, VCR and DVD player at check in. You are responsible to bring any cables, hardware or other needs to make it viewable. If possible leave a copy of your movie. Movies will be scored by our VIP Judge, Rich Raddon, who is the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Film Festival! There will be a 400 point bonus to each of the top 10 movies.
60 per scout Patrol sleeps in tents all night in the front or back yard of your patrol advisors house or the house of someone you know who gives you permission. You can earn points for this on one night only - either Friday or Saturday night.
100 per patrol Participate in Jamboree on the Air. Turn in a report of your activity. Include the following in your eport: Whose amateur radio did you use, their phone number, their call letters, amount of time you worked on it, who you made contact with and tell what you thought about the activity. You must spend at least 10 minutes on this activity to earn the points. This activity has a 3,000 point Bonus Pool. The Bonus Pool will be divided evenly among all patrols that complete the task and turn in the report.
150 per patrol Have your patrol participate in the Jamboree On The Internet. Your Patrol Advisor must oversee this activity. You must submit proof that you participated. List who you made contact with. This is the only item you may print downloaded material from a computer or printer for the Challenge. You must spend at least 20 minutes on this activity to earn any points.

Mystery Clue

You must go to where this dining establishment once was. It does not exist any longer.
If (and that's a BIG if) you figure out the location go to where it once was and you will take your picture with the dinosaurs just east of there.
Same scoring rules apply as with all other Photo Safari locations.
If you succeed your Patrol will earn 500 points.
